Tried to install Windows 7 onto my Dell Mini 10 v. ?Used USB key because I don’t have DVD drive for it. Failed.. got: “Windows could not collect information for [OSImage] since the specified image file [install.wim] does not exist.”

Oh well, I guess I’ll stick with Ubuntu…

It was working fine yesterday. I was running a MySQL database (which tends to be one of the most CPU intensive things I do), and the performance was fine. It was working fine this morning too, but then I decided to reboot (I can’t remember why) and bam!…. It crashed… It tells me to press F2 or F12 for boot up options, but nothing happens when I do (The Mini 10V requires you press the FN key to enable the function keys). Instead I get the following screens, and it just hangs on the second one… The main error seems to be:

mkdir: cannot create directory /var’: Not a directory

I have some Japanese blog posts from before when I was running an early version of WordPress, and I can even enter some Japanese via phpMyAdmin and it shows as in:
http://edmiidz.com/nik/?p=115

But even if I try to type: “I was born in Montreal”, and give the e an acute accent, WP refuses to even save it in the database. I get Montr trying to save it in the Visual Editor

I wonder what happens if I write it in HTML…

Still doesn’t help type Japanese though…. or even write accented letters without looking up their HTML encoding….

I also tried installing a few other instances of WordPress too. At first I assumed that something happened during an upgrade, and need to add something like http://www.webhost4life.com/hostingKB/KnowledgebaseArticle50270.aspx. But the new instance didn’t work. Then I tried downloading and installing the Japanese version too (as a new instance), but that didn’t work either…. All the menus showed up fine in Japanese, but any posting with non-ASCII characters would just show up blank…

Skype Calling fowarding – idea

Wouldn’t it be cool if you could:

1) Forward calls to Skype accounts too.

2) Have the Skype ring at same time as your?forwarded?phones?

If the “niksskypeaccount” was the same account as currently logged in, then it would cause it to ring at the same time as the listed telephone numbers. Otherwise you could forward to “other Skype accounts” at the same time as well. ?Maybe your iPhone has another account, or you want to forward your calls to you VA (virtual?assistant) in India.

My son watches this show Pokemon Sunday every week. ?It’s like a 30 min infomercial for pokemon products, with famous Japanese talents and comedy personality selling this stuff to my kids. ?Anyway, this morning I couldn’t help notice the striking similarity between this Gurogu guy (right) and Adolf Hitler (left). If you’re under13 years old, I’ll just tell you that Hitler was not a very nice man. ?He might even have been the baddest (worst) man of the 20th century….

Digg.com should let people change links

There should be a mechanism in Digg, that when a linked media goes down or changes URL, that people can change the target URL through a voting process, instead of having to search through the comments for a mirror site….

Also unrelated, but I noticed digg.ca was for sale, starting price 1000 USD. ?I wish someone would buy it and make a Canadian oriented Digg… I know there are alternatives, which brag having more of an?international?viewpoint… but I can’t be bothered to remember any…

32GB PhotoFast CF card doesn’t work on D620

Just bought a 32 GM PhotoFast Compact Flash card, but doesn’t work on Dell Latitude D620. I’ve tried updating the BIOS and drivers (PCMCIA adapters and IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers) , but it doesn’t matter what I try it doesn’t work. In fact I tried some D610s and D630s here at work, and my wife old IBM Thinkpad T20, and they all work. Then I tried three other D620s, and none of them worked… Any help much appreciated.
